General Objectives
Objective of the complex project
The project “Preserving and Capitalizing on Romanian Literary Heritage Using Intelligent Digital Solutions for Knowledge Extraction and Systematisation” aims to contribute to preserving and capitalizing on the Romanian literary heritage by developing an Integrated Software Platform (INTELLIT) for intelligent and advanced semantic search and analyses services for collecting and correlation of structured data that derived from data sources as: the General Dictionary of Romanian Literature (DGLR), the Chronology of Romanian Literary Life (CVLR) (1944-2000) and Canonical Works of Romanian Literature (OCLR) (comprising the works of 28 Romanian writers belonging to the national literary heritage).
Component projects
Project 1: The General Dictionary of Romanian Literature, second edition: systematization, translation, digitization (DGLR 2.0)
Project 2: The Chronology of Romanian Literary Life (1944-2000): completion, systematization, digitization (CVLR)
Project 3: Virtual Library of Romanian Literature: systematization and digitization (BVLR)
Project 4: Semantic and analysis tools in the Romanian literary heritage (ICAS)
Objectives of the component projects
Description and general objective of “DGLR 2.0” project:
The DGLR 2.0 project aims to translate into English (partially) and to map in electronic format (in full) the collections of information from the “General Dictionary of Romanian Literature”, second edition. The novelty element of the project consists in structuring the digital information collections in an open, standardized format, compatible with the INTELLIT integrated national platform, in order to collect, store and expose them into the platform.
The overall objective of the project will be to review and systematize existing material for translation and / or digitization, a material that will be transformed into a data source for the INTELLIT platform.
Description and general objective of “CVLR” project:
The CVLR project aims to finalize and map in electronic format the collections of information from the “Chronology of Romanian Literary Life” (1944-2000). The novelty element of the project consists in structuring digital information collections in an open, standardized format compatible with the INTELLIT integrated national platform, in order to collect, store and expose them into the platform.
The overall objective of the project will be to structure digital information collections in an open, standardized format, material that will be stored in and displayed on the INTELLIT platform.
Description and general objective of “BVLR” Project:
The BVLR project aims to develop an integrated software platform (data warehouse and collection and access Web services) as a support for the “Virtual Library of Romanian Literature”, which will offer services for: advanced semantic search, mining of emerging concepts and exploration of intertextual links on data samples from the bases of DGLR 2.0, CVLR and OCLR (= Canonical works of Romanian literature, including the works of Romanian writers belonging to the national literary heritage for which no copyright exists).
The overall objective of the project will be to develop a software platform that, through its components, will provide information on Romanian literature (exhaustive bibliography, information on all editions of a work, manuscripts, the digital version of the works of the most important Romanian writers out of the copyright law etc.)
General description and objective of “ICAS” project:
The ICAS project involves implementing the following services integrated into the BVLR web portal:
- searching for information and documents relevant from a semantic point of view;
- mining of central concepts, emerging in different time periods;
- semantic clustering of Romanian literary heritage documents in order to identify groups of similar documents;
- exploring intertextuality from the perspective of lexical and semantic links between text fragments;
- writing style evolution in various historical periods based on a variety of automated textual complex indexes.
The overall objective of the project will be the development of automated software tools for semantic search and analysis in the Romanian literary heritage based on advanced natural language processing (NLP) techniques.
